Moving Underground

Emerging trends

Increasing trends of more tourist preferring to go to boutique hotels

Teams Vision :

In 2010, Singapore could have a shortage of land to build buildings. So in order to solve this problems we could build an underground hotel that would not only help us in saving space for Singapore but would also provide for the demand for boutique hotels.

Eco-friendly into the recycling bin

Eco-friendly initiatives are being tossed into the recycling bin.

Faced with the grim realization that going green costs money, hotels are instead opting for programs that guilt the guest into making the sacrifices, such as the now-ubiquitous optional towel and sheet replacement program.
Having discovered that guests will tolerate plastic recycling bins and off-white tissue paper, hotels will begin to phase out those cute little bottles of shampoo, blackberry jam and Dijon mustard in favor of “eco-friendly” (cheap) bulk offerings.

VISION
In the future, places where hotels are built will be around the natural environment, and also not harming the environment at the same time. We will make use of the environment to build the hotel to create natural sceneries and attractions. Electric energy used in hotels
will be from solar panels, and the materials they use in the hotel must be recyclable. Most probably, there will also be robots that will be able to clear up the litters around so as not to harm the environment.

Automation Replacing Manual

Emerging Trend:
One of the emerging trends nowadays is replacing employees with automation.

An example would be automated check-in counters.

This automated check in counter which is very similar to ATM banking machines are being used at Sheraton Boston Hotel in America.

Team's Vision

In 2010, there could actually be mass production of these type of machines to replace receptionists.
An idea of it would be walking into a hotel and a row of these machines would embrace you and guide you through check-in. Instead of many staffs serving at the counter, there would be just 1 or 2 staff there to help with any technical inquiries and problems.

Other machines can also be used in different departments as well.

This robot can be used in the Food and Beverage department to cook appetizers and also double as entertainment for guests while their main dish is being cooked with more effort and sincerity by chefs.

This robot can be used to entertain the guests while waiting for their food.

This is another example of an automated receptionist. Only that this one is more realistic with a human form.

All these are not in the commercial market yet.

All these robot technology can be anticipated to be used in the hospitality industry in 2020.
